Tiny steps and a long walk

People often say life is a marathon, not a sprint. But I think neither is quite right, because life isn’t even a race.

It’s a long walk, and we’re free to run when the mood strikes, to take tiny steps if that’s what feels right, or to sit and rest for a while. It’s never about who’s ahead or behind; it’s about living each day so fully that regret doesn’t have room to grow.

Along this walk, the path is lined with doors. Some stand open and transparent, others are tightly shut, and plenty are hidden just around the bend.

The odd part isn’t that the doors exist, but that we rarely know which one is waiting for us next. Sometimes, we pause or even turn back, thinking our journey has ended simply because we can’t see what the future holds. Often, we give up, not realising how close we are to the next opportunity.

If we understood how near we were to something meaningful each time we considered stopping, maybe we’d stay curious a little longer. Perhaps we’d take one more step or offer ourselves a quiet breath before deciding what comes next. But the truth is, there’s no perfect way to know which door will open. All we can do is keep moving, at our own rhythm.

Treat this life like a walk at your own pace. Run when you feel inspired, walk gently when you want to appreciate the view, and rest when you're tired.

Let your steps reflect what you need, not what others expect. Who cares if they are all running at full speed? And, unless you’re certain you’ve found your place, don’t stop just yet.

Yet, as you keep going, remember: when you pass through a door, no need to slam it shut. Try doors you’ve ignored, greet unfamiliar faces, and welcome opportunities big or small. The paths and connections that brought you here matter—sometimes more than we realise. You never know when old comfort or familiar care will be exactly what you need.

So today, take a step toward that door you’ve been meaning to revisit, or open something that’s been waiting to surprise you. Walk forward, curious and open, letting yourself discover what every journey can offer. Not every previous path needs to be closed; sometimes, leaving them open is a gift to your future self.

Keep exploring, let yourself live fully. And as you travel ahead, leave space for returning, reconnecting, and finding belonging wherever your steps lead next.

Because life isn't a marathon, nor a sprint.

Life is a long walk.

I hope you find this insightful. Remember:

It's not going to be easy,
But it's not impossible.
