The lonely road to the life we want

There’s a truth we don’t talk about enough: chasing your dreams is often a lonely place.
When you decide to move closer to your goals, things start to change. Some people drift away. Some mock you. Others try to pull you back down, sometimes in subtle ways, sometimes not so subtle. It hurts, especially when you realise you never saw them as rivals—you saw them as friends.
But here’s the thing: not everyone has the courage to take that first step. Most people stay where it’s safe, where it’s familiar. They might not understand why you’re moving forward, and that can make them uncomfortable. Sometimes, they’ll resent you for it. Sometimes, they’ll even try to stop you.
Because it feels uncomfortable to see someone else chasing their dreams, while they stay the same.
So when you started that journey to the life you've always wanted, it’s gonna be lonely. It’s uncomfortable. It’s sad. You’ll lose friends. You’ll question yourself. You might even wonder if it’s worth it.
But here’s what I’ve learned: this loneliness is temporary.
It’s a necessary part of the journey. The path to your dreams will test you, strip away what isn’t real, and leave you with only what matters. It’s not about proving anyone wrong or leaving anyone behind. It’s about staying true to yourself, even when it’s hard.
You have two choices: submit to their doubts and disrespect, or keep going. Keep moving forward, even when it feels like you’re walking alone in the dark.
And then, something beautiful happens. Once you get past the hard part, it gets easier. You start to find your people: the ones who support you, who see you, who accept you as you are. The loneliness fades, replaced by a sense of belonging you never thought possible.
You've eliminated those who only need you for their convenience, not for who you are.
You’ll look back and realise: you didn’t lose anything. You gained everything. You grew. You became bigger than your fears, bigger than their doubts.
Because your heart is bigger than all of it.
I hope you find this insightful. Remember:
It's not going to be easy,
But it's not impossible.
Your friend,
Brian.
